Our Bubbly & Books discussion for August/September was Becoming, the memoir by Michelle Obama. This book was a timely and inspiring read!
We were all impressed with and in awe of Michelle Obama as a person, woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, leader, advocate, and first lady. We felt that many stories shared in the book showed intimacy and vulnerability. Michelle Obama’s pain when she was in denial about her best friend dying and when she faced her anger over the death of her father touched each of us. We all enjoyed the local South Side of Chicago setting near home for many of us, and in a very familiar place for one of us. Each of us shared that seeing Barack Obama through his wife’s eyes was a very interesting perspective. Those of us who listened to the audiobook shared that Michelle Obama did an outstanding job reading aloud her own memoir!
Please join us in October! Read or listen to the audiobook In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. This psychological murder mystery novel is perfect for the month of all things Halloween! Join us in discussing the story of the amnesiac narrator Nora Shaw as she tries to remember the events of a bachelorette weekend in which a man was murdered. A man who was loved by both the bride-to-be and Nora!
