Taking a pole fitness, aerial hammocks, or aerial hoop class soon? Follow the tips below and we’re sure that you’ll have a great time and get an awesome workout!
Have a Positive Attitude
Aerial classes can be very challenging. We are often pushed out of our comfort zones, especially when learning a new trick. It can even be downright scary sometimes. Remember to approach the challenges with a positive attitude. At the end of the day, aerial classes are all about having fun and making yourself feel good.
Work Both Sides
It can be so easy to focus on learning and perfecting a move on your dominant side. It’s a habit that many aerialists fall into. For symmetry, ensure that you at least try a move on the opposite side. Even better, try to do as many on your non-dominant side as you do on your dominant side. Plus, you never know when you might be working on a combo and just happen to need to do a trick on your non-dominant side to get out.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water before arriving at the studio, during class, and after class. Staying hydrated can help you improve your performance and feel less fatigued.
Ask for Help
Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance, extra spotting, or for a detailed breakdown of a move. Instructors love to help out and answer any questions you may have. After all, they’re here to help you succeed!
Keep an Aerial Journal
Recording all the new tricks you’ve learned after each class becomes a great record of your personal pole and/or aerial journey. You can keep note of which tricks you like and any tips or cues that resonate with you. Not to mention, it becomes very easy to track how far you have progressed since you started.
