What have you heard about aerial fitness (including aerial hammock, aerial hoop/lyra, and pole)? Hopefully that it’s an amazing, life-changing pursuit that offers many opportunities for growth! Through aerial, you’re bound to have tons of fun and to make meaningful connections with others. With that said, there are some myths that may be floating around which simply aren’t true. Let’s take a closer look at what aerial is all about and bust those myths!

Myth: Aerial is not a REAL workout.

Truth: Why would you settle for a boring workout?! Aerial is a unique mix of aerobic exercise (cardio), calisthenics, and stretching.

One study conducted by the American Council on Exercise found, a “50-minute Aerial Yoga class yielded a mean energy expenditure of 320 kcal.” From our own student and instructor testimonials, you can look forward to burning up to 500 calories per 60 minute class!

Other benefits found in this ACE study include “significant improvements in the following cardiometabolic risk factors: weight, body-fat percentage, waist circumference, VO2 max, systolic blood pressure and HDL cholesterol.”

Plus, with smaller class sizes, you have the opportunity to work as hard as you’d like on your own personal apparatus. That means more individualized guidance and YOU time!

So, why not have fun while working out?

Myth: You are not sexy enough for pole.

Truth: ALL Styles Welcomed!

Competitive, contemporary, exotic, artistic, playful… and none are mutually exclusive. Over the course of your journey, your individual style may evolve and bloom. We truly believe in our mission to “Awaken Your Authentic Self.” Be free to be you, this is a safe space. We find strength in diversity!

Myth: You need to be flexible or strong to start OR You need previous gymnastic or dance experience.

Truth: Everyone begins their journey at different points. Our program is designed for all fitness levels and grows with you!

Many of our instructors and students have zero dance or gymnastic experience. It is 100% not required! We encourage students to focus on their own journeys and not to compare with others. Your strengths are your own!

Classes are designed to teach students from the ground up. We encourage a beginner’s mindset throughout your journey, even at a master’s level. There is always something new to discover! You may be surprised to learn what your body is capable of!

Myth: You have to be a certain body type to do Aerial.

Truth: Aerial is for EVERY BODY. Period.

Empower your body to shine as it is today. You are perfect the way you are. We are here to help you express that safely, through movement.

Myth: You must be young to do Aerial

Truth: Aerial is a lifelong activity.

All ages are welcome, from kids to adults!

Myth: Aerial is too expensive and time consuming.

Truth: Once you find a workout that fits your lifestyle, you stick with it.

It becomes an integral part of who you are. You will want to spend more and more time doing it because you LOVE it, not because you have to. How many times have you bought a gym membership, never to use it!?

We are a supportive community that wants you to succeed at reaching your fitness goals. RGF feels like a second home!

The US Department of Health and Human Services recommends a “minimum of 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or 75 minutes per week of vigorous exercise.” We suggest at least 2-3 classes a week to maximize your progress. Earlier this year, we pivoted to offer many classes virtually. Working out from home is a convenient way to stay connected, physically and mentally, during this time!

Your health is worth investing in!
