Presenting the Goddess Spotlight for July… Julie!

What inspires you?

My inspiration comes from the journey to be authentically myself in every moment. Like many women, I have faced the challenge of others trying to fit me into a predefined box, dictating how I should look, act, and feel. This experience has driven me to break free from these constraints and embrace my true self. The courage to live authentically, despite societal pressures, inspires me daily. It empowers me to support others in their journeys to self-discovery and self-expression, fostering a community where everyone feels free to be themselves!

What brought you to RGF?

I always wanted to get into aerial dancing but could never muster the courage to do so until last year! I was in my master’s program, all online. During this time, I felt very isolated. The program was challenging—eight-week courses, discussion boards, research papers, ahhhh. It felt never-ending and was so draining. But then I had an idea. I thought, “Hey, I’ve been wanting to try pole dancing for a while now, and I am in dire need of socialization with like-minded individuals!” After my first class with Brie, I fell in love, and now I can’t get enough of RGF in my life.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the studio?

I love listening to music, particularly rock (90s, 80s) and lots of heavy metal. I know sometimes metal seems scary, but it is such an incredible emotional release! I can be found going to concerts around the Chicago/Midwest area and discovering new bands and new music. The Metro and Bottom Lounge in Chicago are some of my favorites, and I love The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee too.

What is your favorite thing about pole/aerial?

My favorite thing about pole/aerial is that you can put your own creative twist on the way you dance. Everyone has a unique way of presenting themselves, which I find beautiful. I love that I get to show so much emotion in my routines. You can really paint a picture of what you are trying to communicate to your audience through your presentation. Not to mention, it feels like therapy to me! As an outpatient mental health therapist, I hear a lot of stories that can really affect your mental health if you don’t have a self-care routine. Pole is my way of letting go and just being present with my thoughts and my body.
