Announcing our student spotlight for September… Jen!
What inspires you?
I find inspiration in art, music, poetry & most of all my fellow students and the instructors at RGF! When I took the “Performance Workshop Series” last spring I met the most inspirational women and witnessed their stunningly beautiful & powerful routines.
What brought you to RGF?
When my son headed off to college last year, I was in search of a hobby that would take me out of my comfort zone. My soul craved something new and exciting. I took dance lessons as a child and was curious what it would be like to dance as an adult. Little did I know that taking classes at RGF would boost my confidence, bring me new friends, help relieve stress and give me a creative outlet!!
What do you enjoy doing outside of the studio?
I like to plan theme parties, play Uno with my husband and son, snuggle up with my dog, & listen to local bands. I just completed training to become a Reiki Practitioner and started offering sessions to friends and family. I also started an adventure group for “empty nesters” called “The Freebirds” where I plan unusual outings & fun events.
What is your favorite thing about aerial dance?
I love the beautiful shapes a dancer can make in the hammock. It’s freeing & fun to be in all sorts of funky positions – upside down, in the air, sideways, standing on the fabric or wrapped in it! Aerial dance can communicate so many different “vibes” – strength, vulnerability, passion, gentleness, simplicity, intricacy, etc. I love how aerial dance has taught me to cross the bridge from “I can’t” to “I can” by replacing a lot of negative chatter in my head! It’s been an incredibly empowering journey!
